It really amazes me every time I finish a painting and I realize that just a short time before it had been a blank canvas. Even though I can see in my mind where I want a painting to go, when it does, it just wows me.
After a lifetime of dabbling, I got serious about an art career in late 2010. My natural ability, like a diamond in the rough, began undergoing a one year polishing process through instruction by a very talented young lady in my area, and I could feel the energy to accomplish more as it took over. There have been additional creative lapses since, but I retired in January of 2016 and now my art, photography, and writing are full time fun for me.
I love that I have something I do well, that it's something I love doing, and that there are wonderful people out there who want to own a piece of the beauty that ends up on my canvas or a book I've written.
I opened an art studio in a local art co-op in March of 2014. It was one of the best things I've ever done for myself. Being around others who are creative minded is a fantastic encouragement. The studio has since been closed as I've developed relationships with galleries which now exhibit and sell my work. In the fall of 2016, I published my first E-book, available on Amazon, called Enriching Your Retirement. As of January, 2019, my art has been purchased and collected by people in eight countries on three continents. Two more books, a Christian fiction and a young adult fiction, are scheduled for completion this year.
I took a great leap of faith in May of 2018 with 2,200 mile move to Lake Chapala, Mexico. It's a glorious country with wonderful people and this area is rated to have the second best weather year round in the entire world. I maintain my home in Florida where family and friends look forward to my visits, and rent a lovely home with a lake view south of the border.
My advice to you - find something you love to do and DO IT! Don't give up and don't worry about time. You never know what interesting twists and turns your life will take. Go through your life taking every opportunity to learn and grow. God has a plan and it's better than anything you could have thought up for yourself. When He opens a door for you, be ready to walk through it.
"And always remember, life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by those moments that take our breath away." (George Carlin)
